Apple, Softee and Sony anecdotes from Century City
I don’t know could’ve been a lame jogger maybe
Or someone just about to do the freeway strangler baby
Shopping cart pusher or maybe someone groovie
One thing’s for sure, he isn’t starring in the movies.
‘Cause he’s walkin’ in L.A.
Walkin’ in L.A., nobody walks in L.A. – Missing Persons
Man, I’ve been running around in LA for less than 24 hours, and it’s seems like I’ve already seen half the town.
A couple quick thoughts for you — Should have seen the Apple Store in Century City yesterday and how packed it really was. All the non-Apple made items that are built for the iPhone/iPad and Macs because they’ve hit critical mass as platforms.
Then you go to the Windows store — empty. The displays featured Nokia Lumia phone unlocked for $800 next to a $700 ultrabook. Oh, and you could buy these disc-like things that hold video games on them for the Xbox. There were no discs for sale on display anywhere at Apple.
And the Sony store in between the Apple and Windows stores in Century City? 3-D, 3-D, and more 3-D displays and some Playstation gaming stuff and some Android tablets that nobody looked at the entire time I was there. Empty.
At some point, Apple’s earnings growth and therefore its stock are likely to top. That won’t happen until the critical mass of iPhone/iPad is challenged.
I’ve got a meeting with some writers and editors from Marketwatch/WSJ today and I’ve got a meeting at CAA’s headquarters with my old TV agent after that and then any of you who want to join us at our TradingWithCody.com get together (see the details from our gracious host, David below).
Remember that I’d said I’d put in some limit orders near $3 for my FIO March $30 calls that are about to expire. Yesterday morning the stock spike intraday just over $33 which means those got filled and I’ll take it. I’ll likely use the proceeds from this batch of FIO calls to buy some longer-dated FIO calls or even maybe just some FIO common. Will let you know if and when that happens.
Missing Persons – Walking in LA
Hi All,
Hope you are all gearing up for the Apple Investor Summit and looking forward to meeting you all for the wine and cheese at my loft on Thursday March 15th at 6pm 🙂I want to thank Cody for giving us all the opportunity to meet him in a more intimate setting. And for the fabulous STX and FIO picks 😉 (among others)My place is about a fifteen to twenty minute walk from the conference. Probably best to take a short cab ride. But if you are walking and want to check out the neighborhood, head Northeast on Figueroa towards Olympic, then make a right a few streets later on 7th. Head down 7th then make a left on Spring St.. Make your next left on 6th and my place will be on the right. If you are driving your own vehicle, there is a parking lot located on Main and 6th that provides convenient access. When you exit the parking lot, if you see you are headed towards either Los Angeles St. or 5th St, turn around. Head instead towards Spring or 6th (depending on which exit you take out of the lot you will already be on either 6th or Spring). 215 W 6th is the Manhattan Lofts, across from dtown Burger and a small market. Please don’t hesitate to call me if you need any further info. or directions.David Bensoussan215 W 6th St., Penthouse #12Los Angeles CA 90014cell (646) 642-8870FYI I am inviting a half a dozen friends and business partners with an interest in stocks, probably 3 or 4 will show up, below is the email I sent out to them. If you are attending the conference with others please feel free to bring one or two guests and forward them this email. We will probably end up with anywhere from 7 to 20 total people depending on who shows up…email to non-subscribers:You are all cordially invited to a wine and cheese party I’m throwing at my loft in downtown LA on Thursday March 15th at 6pm. The get together will host Cody Willard, who used to manage a very successful tech hedge fund and worked with Jim Cramer and also had his own Fox business TV show. I’m a member of Cody’s excellent subscription service http://tradingwithcody.com/and since he is attending the Apple Investor Summit http://www.appleinvestorsummit.com/ which is practically in my back yard, I decided to attend it too and invite Cody and some subscribers to get together. My friend and business partner Warren Thefeld and some other buddies will be there as well.It might also be a good occasion for you to check out this neighborhood in terms of real estate investing. Probably the neighborhood with the most potential for appreciation on the West coast. One billion dollars plus to be invested along with new stadium etc. I’m attending another conference around the 28th I think on redevelopment in DTLA which I can forward on if any of you have interest.wine and cheese w/ Cody Willard at David’s loft:215 W 6th St. Penthouse 12Los Angeles CA 900146 to ??“Manhattan Lofts” across from dtown burgers on 6th corner of 6th and Spring.Best, David
