One of the best ways to feel out what the future will bring…

It’s not easy trying to stay ahead of the curve when you’re investing in   cutting edge tech.  But one of the best ways to feel out what the future   will bring is to actually go in and spend your time and money building   tech products.

I’ve built Internet video websites and other content  companies over  the years and have had both successes and failures in the  businesses  along the way, but the lessons I’ve learned from building  tech  companies have been invaluable to me as a tech investor.

Case in point, the new AppConsumer app for the iPhone and iPad, available for free at the Apple App store at http://bit.ly/appconsumer.

Less than a year ago, I founded AppConsumer.com and in the time  since, there’s been millions of apps added to Apple’s iOS and Google’s  Android platforms.  Oh and Windows, Blackberry and Palm and Nokia and a  few others have app platforms too.   It’s truly been every bit the app  mania that I was expecting back when we started building AppConsumer.

We’ve now got more than 5,000 review, how-to and even just funny  videos about apps, games, smartphones and tablets on the site now.   We’ve got more than 3,000 “Top 5 Apps Lists” for every interest, hobby  or profession you can come up with.  And we’ve got hundreds of  AppConsumer original articles, including those of our editor-in-chief, Nathania Johnson and hundreds of articles about investing in apps by yours truly.

And I’m so pumped to announce that we’ve just finished our first  AppConsumer app for the iPhone and iPad.  And yes it’s absolutely free  and everything in it is free.  It allows users to easily search, find  and watch all those videos right inside the app.  It’s got all of  Nathania’s and my app articles right there in front of you and it  updates automatically whenever we add a new video or article to the  site.

So if you’ve got an iPhone or an iPad and you want to find, search or  discover new apps and games for it, please download the free new  AppConsumer app for the iPhone or the iPad, available at http://bit.ly/appconsumer and let me know what you think.

And if you’re serious about trying to invest in tech, I do suggest  you start a business or two yourself and see just how much in can inform  your investment decisions.

RIMM, which we’ve stayed far away from is getting killed this morning as we’d expected.  And more importantly for us, our biggest short LPS is down 8% pre-market too.

The sun’s just peaked over the hills in southeastern NM.  What a glorious day to be trading.

Back in a bit with a rundown of my positions.
