Revolution Investing Links: Groupon Is Doomed and Hating on the JOBS Act

I closed on more land this week in New Mexico. If you can buy real estate at a huge discount, especially land which doesn’t have any upkeep or maintenance costs, I sure think it’ll pay off over the next ten to twenty years. And here are some more investment thoughts and must-reads as we head into the weekend.

A Pox on Promoted Stocks – Merkel explains some very important fundamental rules for all investors. I recently wrote about the problem with promoted penny stocks too. Read Merkel’s article — he’s batting 100% when warning readers to run from these situations.

Will 2012 Play Out Like 1998? – You guys know how many times I’ve written about the parallels between now and the late 1990s as we headed into a tech stock bubble. Jordan gives his two cents on the timing parallels. It’s like the markets are Desmond on Lost or something. Next year we’ll party like it’s 1999! Or 1974 Dharma Initiative.

A quarter to remember – Editor-in-Chief of Marketwatch David Callaway talks about how surprising the big rally in the first quarter was for most traders. Wasn’t surprising for my subscribers, huh?

Constant Contact takes on Groupon – I would love to get short Groupon, but I am worried about being way too early. That and the fact that Google almost paid billions for this stupid concept company keeps me sidelined.

Embarrassed by Groupon (Or Is Groupon Doomed?) – Interesting take on using Groupon GRPN [wsj-quote ticker=”GRPN” name=”Groupon Inc.” realTimeChannel=”/quotes/nls/grpn” channel=”/quotes/zigman/7212269″ id=”quote_2836467″] and coupons in general. I’ve not used Groupon myself, but having spent the last year and half in rural New Mexico doesn’t exactly put me in their key demographic.

JOBS Act benefits financial criminals and Why You Should Hate the “Jumpstart Obama’s Bucket Shops” Act – What’s wrong with our Republican/Democrat Regime that they’d undo even the minor disclosure rules for raising money? Transparency in financial markets is key to prosperity, but everything these Repub/Democs and the regulators they let run things do is moving towards less transparency. Sigh.

Here Are 11 Desperate Companies That Might Buy RIM (RIMM, GOOG, HPQ, DELL) – Subscriber CAL from the side bar chat on TradingWithCody.com had an even better theory: “I heard RIMM is getting bought out by Greece. The new country/company will be called Grimm.”
