@arnold: AT this point I would rather buy the stocks with better earnings, guidance who are pulling back such as a goog, FB, SNDK, AMZN. As an example cody said FSLR may need 1-2 qtrs to show growt again just a matter of how long u wnat to wait for your money to work for u to the upside.

eryba1
August 15, 2013 – 10:57 am
@rkumar: yes overall market yest individual stocks has bene ongoing for a bit and I am looking to add this morning to amzn, cien, sndk, aapl,
eryba1
August 15, 2013 – 11:12 am
@rkumar: market will not be nicely oversold vix spiking all things we have wanted to start looking at out shopping list of things to buy. Again individual stocks that have been correcting are for now down less than the market today such as goog, gld, Fb aapl

August 15, 2013 – 11:28 am
@SamsaricSufferer: darn it – I knew the VIX trade would be a good one but I was out yesterday. Probably not a good idea to chase it here right?
eryba1
August 15, 2013 – 11:40 am
the gold and silver + gold minets ETF’s seem to want to go higher
eryba1
August 15, 2013 – 1:07 pm
GLD great vol mid day and breakout out away from its 50 day moving avg
Cody
August 15, 2013 – 1:45 pm
@msamuels2000: Nah, wouldn’t chase it. But maybe bid a little bit under the market for some here.
eryba1
August 15, 2013 – 1:45 pm
adding more FB common here down 8-9% at 36 from its 39+ hi’s and adding some aapl as well

August 15, 2013 – 2:29 pm
I gave Cody a hard time on an email the other night after getting
drefleury
August 15, 2013 – 2:29 pm
burned on a few investments, but Cody I have to apologize, I think you’re doing a nice job, and I appreciate the help.
eryba1
August 15, 2013 – 2:33 pm
@Cody: on the gld and gdx slv sure trim after 20-30% moves higher but is it possible we caught a GREAT low buying in LATE june after each crashed twice? I want to let y GLD ride its gone from 116 to 132 about 15% rise so nothing too explosive like the moves in GDX and SLV and if your targets are right on gold itself perhaps
msamuels2000
August 15, 2013 – 2:36 pm
@eryba1: adding cien, jnpr and ccc her at these levels
eryba1
August 15, 2013 – 2:37 pm
@msamuels2000: cien earnings next week I believe. jnpr 10% pullback so far. I like the $$ so far today I bough common in the names I mentioned all day. MArket will be VERY oversold if we close here
eryba1
August 15, 2013 – 2:38 pm
qcom and aapl acting very strong
eryba1
August 15, 2013 – 2:41 pm
@Cody: (pressed enter too soon) if your targets are right then I will hold onto the GLD for now and let it ride if gold is indeed breaking out here.
msamuels2000
August 15, 2013 – 2:47 pm
@eryba1: took my double off the table on GDX calls this am when th market looked sketchy. Should have trimmed instead of closed out. Live an learn
eryba1
August 15, 2013 – 2:48 pm
@msamuels2000: always trim on way up and down
eryba1
August 15, 2013 – 2:49 pm
I have always in normal acting market never sold or buy all and when I did it was always to my detriment

arnold
August 15, 2013 – 3:07 pm
JNPR. Is it down in sympathy with CSCO or is the the regulatory issue?
eryba1
August 15, 2013 – 3:08 pm
@drefleury: to me sounds like it at these levels or when it was 1320 or lower?
drefleury
August 15, 2013 – 3:08 pm
I meant silver
eryba1
August 15, 2013 – 3:09 pm
@arnold: jnpr and cien both down but fnsr recently reported great #’s so a pullbk, cien reports next week
drefleury
August 15, 2013 – 3:11 pm
@eryba1: I’m told that paying 10% on silver is reasonable because you generally have to pay that much over spot. Is that true?
drefleury
August 15, 2013 – 3:11 pm
I paid about 4% on my last gold purchase, which is why it seemed high.
eryba1
August 15, 2013 – 3:12 pm
@drefleury: i have not bot physical cody has so i am not up to date on such
arnold
August 15, 2013 – 3:16 pm
@eryba1. Thanks. Nice announcement from FNSR. Didn’t think the regulatory stuff was a big mover, but wanted 2nd opinion
eryba1
August 15, 2013 – 3:17 pm
@arnold: I think the jnpr and cien declines are all csco based first and then the correctuon today. CIEN will need to confirm its bullish story of the past 2 qtrs to get it moving in the right direction again
eryba1
August 15, 2013 – 3:31 pm
CIEN is down almost as much as CSCO for its weak earnings guidance.
vmontes
August 15, 2013 – 3:52 pm

eryba1
August 15, 2013 – 4:16 pm
although we got the pullback or are seeing the pullback many asked for many stocks outperformed as they have corrected ahead of this decline. We closed near the lows of the day and will be very oversold going into tomorrows session lets see what tomorrow brings as we can always get further oversold. The metal miners and etf’s did well today on good volume as it seems the metals are break out.
TL15
August 16, 2013 – 10:07 am
@cody and @eryba1, I know you’ve mentioned a number of times about a large pullback in our near future, what’s the best way to position ourselves to benefit off of a drastic move down? Would you look at DOG and QQQ?
jakef1111
August 16, 2013 – 10:44 am
@cody based on jdsu/csco er should we be hedging cien long with some puts? Or should we be buying more expecting fnsr type results? Is cien in the sweet spot with jnpr/fnsr?
eryba1
August 16, 2013 – 12:59 pm
@TL15: Everyone has their own style what works for them. For me thats trimming as things go higher and wait for the pullback vs shorting as I want back in at lower prices in a bull market than try to think how far perhaps the decline will go. I have shorted in the past but twith the thought of my shopping list price levels to buy stocks at I am more consumed with that than hoping for an overall market deeper decline. Also every stock acts differently the markets may be down 3-5% but an individual stock may have corrected already is may be down less or start to move up as things decline. Its all on a stock by stock basis
eryba1
August 16, 2013 – 1:00 pm
@jakef1111: thats a good question
drefleury
August 16, 2013 – 1:02 pm
@eryba1: hey what do y’all think about a Sony play with this Viacom news.
eryba1
August 16, 2013 – 1:03 pm
something odd at least for now the GLD and slv are both higher for the day while the gold miners etf index GDX is down 2% could be just working off the overbought nature of the gdx however the slv is also overbought. usually all 3 trade together in their direction
eryba1
August 16, 2013 – 1:07 pm
@drefleury: not really sure reading up on it now. Just sounds like things heating up in the NFLX Amazon prime, Hulu world

Looking at my WAGE puts, and they aren’t trading those strikes on TD Ameritrade and show that they’re worth nothing… Strange. Anyone else?
eryba1
August 16, 2013 – 1:57 pm
liking the move in select stocks as the markets are down a bit, naz unch basiclaly. GLD still breaking out 136 next? Added a small amount of common long to my FB position today making it my largest holding
Olivepetunia
August 16, 2013 – 2:04 pm
@drefleury: You should contact broker and inquire if they are having computer issues with whatever they use to display options quotes. I was with E*Trade until this year and they would occasionally have similar problems, i.e., quotes not passing through to their site. Broker assistance would be required to obtain quotes and initiate trades. WAGE has options out to Feb 2014; strikes for Sept are from 17.5 to 50
arnold
August 16, 2013 – 2:08 pm
Ameritrade now has quotes for WAGE options. Must have been a temp glitch

August 16, 2013 – 2:09 pm

arnold
August 16, 2013 – 2:19 pm
Speaking of options, I sold my SLV too soon. No wonder Cody is taking profits. My question is why is he getting out of the common too?
drefleury
August 16, 2013 – 2:52 pm
THanks folks… It’s working now. I was searching online for WAGE BK news… lol
eryba1
August 16, 2013 – 2:54 pm
@arnold: in general cody doesnt trust the metals etf’s and what they actually hold or not. However SLV has gone from 19 to 22.5 straight up nearly 20% and thats from recent lows vs the LOW so far at 17.9
drefleury
August 16, 2013 – 2:55 pm
I was interested to see no replies (except eryba) to my question about how much above spot folks are paying for metals… I had to pay about 4% for gold, and 6.5% for silver… ANy others?
eryba1
August 16, 2013 – 2:57 pm
@drefleury: that doesnt sound too bad and inline with prices over spot cody has paid for in the past weeks and months
drefleury
August 16, 2013 – 2:59 pm
@eryba1: Thanks… I was using AMerican Bullion, but recently went with APMEX because it was waaaay cheaper… I saved $300 per 100 oz. silver bar. That’s a big difference, we’re talking almost 4 points difference.
drefleury
August 16, 2013 – 2:59 pm

bought FB yesterday at around 36.15. Holding still. What do we expect from FB after the recent consolidation ? does it look to cross $38-$40 near term.
drefleury
August 16, 2013 – 3:57 pm
@George Mtz: go short on WAGE
hc2002
August 16, 2013 – 4:02 pm
@nrmeshram: Feel like FB still has some consolidation to do.
eryba1
August 19, 2013 – 8:23 am
@nrmeshram: HC2002 may consolidate longer as the market is still in correction mode and pretty oversold at oscillator – 248 reading as of friday’s close. However mnay stocks as I had said last week are already correcting aside from Fb GOOG, SNDK,AMZN,CIEN, INTC to name a few
Jay
August 19, 2013 – 9:20 am
I’m wondering if this is the start of a larger correction or just a small dip into new highs. Time will tell.
eryba1
August 19, 2013 – 9:26 am
@Jay: that no one knows but we are already quite oversold can always go lower- http://www.mcoscillator.com/market_breadth_data/ lets look at individual stocks and their movement some will tell U when their bottom is in when thye atrt moving higher gogo has corrected 8-9% FB 8% 39.3 to 36, amzn 311 to 283 cien 23 to 21
eryba1
August 19, 2013 – 10:05 am
Bears almost back to the peak we saw at the june lows- http://tickersense.typepad.com/ticker_sense/
eryba1
August 19, 2013 – 10:16 am
this Plus the oversold nature of the oscialltor are contrary indicators like cody says flip it very hi bullish readying = sell some very hi bears = buy some same for the oscillator very oversold = buy some very overbought = sell some for market averages . individual stocks will do their own thing
Benb
August 19, 2013 – 10:54 am
jeez whats going on with apple, it gets bigger everyday and I thought taking steroids was illegal.
eryba1
August 19, 2013 – 10:56 am
@Benb:we all know a PE on apple of 8 ex cash growing 15-20% wasnt fair value at all but at time that was what street was willing to pay. Now everyone waking up seeing ichan in and saying wait he’s right its too cheap trading at PE of clorox, kleened, tide vs a growth company
JeffDaniel
August 19, 2013 – 11:05 am
Does anyone here see Apple’s melt up continuing to $550 pre September 10 and if the annc is well recieved (innovative) up to $600+ by yearend? I do.
eryba1
August 19, 2013 – 11:13 am
@JeffDaniel: the upside is quite strong now so much that its overbought on the RSI level but as we saw with downside it can go to extremes as well. Apple should trade with a PE worthy of a 15-20% growth stock not a 8 like KLEENEX trades at. With ichan stating as such NOW people are saying he maybe he’s right. So lets watch and see

would like to add FSLR to a few accts it it can hold 37-38 level and not crash again to 35 as cody said that is where he would add more. Its down from 56.5 to 37.5 or 35% or so
eryba1
August 19, 2013 – 1:54 pm
Fb acting very well along with aaple and amzn and goog tying to find support after their corrections
doug.sekula
August 19, 2013 – 2:11 pm
@eryba: Nice one on FB, when you bought friday making it your largest position I did the same after selling at 39 after earnings. Will you buy any more CIEN before earnings? This (CIEN) is my 3 largest position bought at 15 and trimmed at highs but thinking about more exposure before earnings.
eryba1
August 19, 2013 – 2:16 pm
@doug.sekula: seeing as its your 3rd largest holding no real reward to add here lets wait for earnings. FB is looking good and I just added FSLR common long shares to one acct here at 37.55
eryba1
August 19, 2013 – 2:21 pm
@doug.sekula: CIEN had a bullish story and earnings past 2 qtrs. 1st time they popped then dropped as no one believed them 2nd time they did now a correction 23 to 21 so I will wait lets not overweight too many stocks into earning sit can be painful if it pops we have and its gets to become a bigger % of the portfolio either way. If it drops we can always add more depending on the reason for the decline. There are other stocks to add

@anyone: Any thoughts on Google $900 Dec calls? Thinking about jumping in….
eryba1
August 19, 2013 – 2:34 pm
@doug.sekula: I sold FSLR a while back so I am just getting back into it here. 56-37 a 19 point drop or 35% is quite steep. the 10 year bon’s yield keeps rising thus no traction in the overall market averages down at the lows of the day for S&P and dow
eryba1
August 19, 2013 – 2:38 pm
Facebook rose nearly 3% to $38.05 after Evercore Partners analyst Ken Sena raised his price target to $45 from $34. “Improvements in ad targeting, attractive ad pricing, and stable-to-growing user engagement, lead us to see room for meaningfully higher revenue-per-user,” Sena wrote.

gold is being very resilient in regards to the GLD $132 at its 100 day moving avg and resistance for now at 133. Lets see what it does as it seems to have MAYBE turned the corner.

August 19, 2013 – 3:43 pm
looking at CCC and JNPR. both dropping. Could this be a buying opportunity? Or an earnings play (based on how CIEN reports or ???)
arnold
August 19, 2013 – 3:44 pm
JNPR would be the earning play. CCC for long term
eryba1
August 19, 2013 – 3:44 pm

arnold
August 19, 2013 – 3:47 pm
Thanks. I’ll keep my powder dry
eryba1
August 19, 2013 – 4:19 pm
@arnold: good idea overall. The markets continue their correction we will be further oversold after todays close near the lows. As for individual stocks are they saying they have bottomed already GOOG,FB, AMZN, INTC.
eryba1
August 19, 2013 – 4:43 pm
A/H Facebook – Janney Capital initiated coverage of the social-networking giant with a “buy” rating and price target of $50. Shares edged higher in extended-hours trading.
eryba1
August 20, 2013 – 8:29 am
once again the 10 year yield which is down 2.5% this morning to 2.811 is helping prop the market higher. Not to mention the VERY oversold nature of the oscillator registering at MINUS 310 last night, -plus the most bearish sentiment another barometer and you have the recipe for a pop higher. That is what the averages are doing individual stocks have been marching to their own tune the past few days stablizing and moving higher such as FB,amzn, goog, lnkd would be nice to see SNDK and CIEN join that crowd. Lets see how the market and stocks proceed today.
eryba1
August 20, 2013 – 8:30 am
This from Cramer no on the rise in Yields and why : As I search for reasons, aided by my colleague Matt Horween, I think that perhaps Europe is turning faster than we think, and that the demand for money worldwide might be increasing. Maybe that’s why the euro is so strong, too. Perhaps the eurozone can grow 1% to 2%, and that will pull up the world’s interest rates. But I simply don’t see any activity here that could justify this move. It’s either artificial, or it is coming from overseas — because no bank, not a single one I deal with, is saying there’s newfound demand for credit.
eryba1
August 20, 2013 – 8:30 am
The good news? If interest rates could go up this fast, they could go down this fast, and everything that’s getting killed will come back to life. The bad news? I don’t believe the 10-year bond will go back to 2.5%. Instead, I believe it will go to 2.75%, down from 2.86%. I think that could happen later this week, in fact, as the Fed has to be horrified by the relentless nature of this new move. It’s too fast, too furious and too unjustified by the facts.

doug.sekula
August 20, 2013 – 3:47 pm
@jahmon:@rkumar: Me too. I thought of doing that after they reported, I engineer in big office buildings /Hotel’s in Wash DC and they are all starting to use LED lighting. The selling point is how long the buyback is, that is how long it takes the amount you are saving (in KWH) to pay for the cost of the bulb over the life of the bulb (which lasts 22,000+ compared to a 3,000 to 10,000 hour bulb) Building engineers dream! I know first hand.

August 20, 2013 – 4:30 pm
@doug.sekula: for now FB and fslr are performing better after corrections. FSLR needs more follow through FB got some at 36 to 38.5 today. CREE possibly washed out well see I’M not a buyer of it for now.

@eryba1: Thanks

August 20, 2013 – 4:33 pm
@doug.sekula: more buying time? anything in particular U R referring to? FSLR buy today was productive for today. WOuld like to see it back over 40 resistance at 45ish its 50 day moving avg. I think if market has any life at some point to regain upside and move away from very oversold nature we can see that upside. However it may take some time.
doug.sekula

@eryba1: More buying time to make $$$ on long positions before the “big crash” as Cody been scaling into some more VXX. Where do we go from here? Maybe a pop soon in CIEN which is coming from earnings. Built my position in FSLR yesterday at closing bell when I seen you said you added it. It is now tied with my 2nd largest CIEN position. BULLS or BEARS that is the question!

@doug.sekula: at this point all we can say is we are enduring a correction in the averages, how far it goes is unclear. However we need to look at individual stocks and what they are doing. We are still oversold at -180 on the oscillator and have TOO hi a level of bearish sentiment- http://tickersense.typepad.com/ticker_sense/ So we just have to watch how things progress on a stock by stock basis. the 10yr yield is an issue at 2.8% its too hi to justify where the GDP # is.. So lets be safe and smart out there look for oversold / stocks that have corrected nearly 10% if not more (IMHO) such as a FSLR, goog, sndk, amzn, cien, intc,

not that it matters to the market but the dow jones is VERY oversold looking at its RSI levels. It has had a 5% correction so far basically straight down.

@everyone I’m a me too on CREE. It is a great long term idea; thanks Cody. I am looking at the intc april 2014 calls at 32 (for 100), also a Cody buy. They seem like a good buy because of intc’s push towards mobile. Any reaction? What do you think about sndk or mu (either common or calls). I have positions in both already.

@carl: Carl, Just be careful when you’re using options instead of common. Gains and losses are quickly magnified with the option trades. Rock on.

@cody Maybe Zynga will make some money because of this. Do you think that Micron (MU) looks good any time soon, or is the conversion to flash memory going to be too slow for the stock to pop any time soon?

Lets see if CIEN correction now over? 23.3 to 20.6 as cody highlighted positive story about Cien’s industry- ADI reports earnings – mgmt. calls out communications as an area of strength (a theme we have seen from a bunch of other tech companies over the last few months); industrials revs very slightly below expectations – ‘Order rates improved across all of our end markets during the third quarter, and we saw the strongest sequential revenue growth from products used in communications infrastructure applications… ‘”
