@eryba1: Goog has corrected quite a bit here, do you think it is a good buy at this level?
eryba1
August 29, 2013 – 8:23 am
@888: I only say what I am doing and that is I am a buyer at these levels having corrected from 925 to 845 ish so a near 8-9% correction and is oversold as well on RSI chart
eryba1
August 29, 2013 – 8:26 am
@888: In the same camp I would put CIEN, SNDK,AMZN,ZNGA,FSLR

August 29, 2013 – 9:32 am

eryba1
August 29, 2013 – 9:34 am

eryba1
August 29, 2013 – 9:38 am
@888: FWIW- I wanted to rank CIEN an 8 after its 23 to 20 correction but with earnings next week I like others have bot in small tranches until earnings are released.
eryba1
August 29, 2013 – 9:41 am

Id rate gdx a 9 here based on the pullback to support and 50 day
eryba1
August 29, 2013 – 10:26 am
@jakef1111: GDX swings wildly so give this one some room IMO 26.3 like room to the downside perhaps
jakef1111
August 29, 2013 – 10:33 am

Cody mentioned that the Jan $32 GDX calls might be worth looking into
eryba1
August 29, 2013 – 11:03 am
anyone else added CREE the past few days?
jahmon
August 29, 2013 – 11:14 am
Small add Elad. Cody said he was probably going to add some calls to was waiting for that.
msamuels2000
August 29, 2013 – 11:16 am
@eryba1: I jumped into CREE with both feet when I saw the chart after Cory’s call. I don’t need any more but I like the setup
eryba1
August 29, 2013 – 11:17 am
@msamuels2000: yes setup looks good was VERY oversold fell from 75 to 53.
eryba1
August 29, 2013 – 11:19 am
@jahmon: it seems to have found support at the 55 area

August 29, 2013 – 11:21 am
@eryba1: thoughts on FIO, one of the fav of Cody before?
eryba1
August 29, 2013 – 11:22 am
@888: Never say never but I will NEVER invest in that one again!! havent in all of 2013 got burnt in 2012, way too erratic, way too inconsistent and thus not for me.

jahmon
August 29, 2013 – 11:59 am
Jake you actually reminded me of Cody’s gdx jan call comments and a bought some…so thank you
jakef1111
August 29, 2013 – 12:01 pm
@LONGFOOLS107: i personally dont like scty i havnt done enought research but i know they are dependent on gov subs and loans to consumers. I think the best thing to do is analyze their business model see how they make money… Maybe even call them if their in your area for an estimate and see if their doing something sustainable… Just my idea ultimatly its your money
LONGFOOLS107
August 29, 2013 – 12:02 pm
Thank you Jake
jakef1111
August 29, 2013 – 12:07 pm
@eryba1: id give intc a 6 its at a point of support where you can accumulate some if you dont have a position.. If you have a position id wait to see if 22 hold more aggressivly buying at 21.. Id say lnn is an 8, 2 pts downside to good support 80 is resistance looks like it can take it out sooner or later trend looks good tho.. Gld 7 we bought some lower the trend looks to be up… But as cody said he doesnt like the etfs as a paper promise therefore going with phys gold and gdx
eryba1
August 29, 2013 – 12:08 pm
@jakef1111: well said. I have neither LNN or GLD but chose them as they were down and U were on an intraday roll maybe they could flip to upside if U spoke about them. paper etf sure know codys thoughts well on these, trend is up let it rest a bit.
jahmon
August 29, 2013 – 1:08 pm

Any thoughts on ZLC (Zales) as a short candidate at this price? Up about 40% over past 2 days after good report. Seems the reported debt ratio might hinder continued upside???
eryba1
August 29, 2013 – 5:54 pm
markets are just hovering at these levels. So far nothing to ignite them from these areas as it awaits- Fed taper, budget stuff. Meanwhile individual names are trying to put in a bottom and moving higher some better than others FSLR, LNKD, FB,AMZN,SNDK,GOOG,CIEN, CREE. C U tom

lots of caution in this weak market as we head into a long 3 day weekend. market still oversold a bit, bearishness high, fear hi, Vix rising to 17.35 . however gold is down and oil is UNCH on the USO. Those one would think would be up if it were true fear vs just getting less long and selling into a labor day weekend.
doug.sekula
August 30, 2013 – 11:17 am
@eryba1: Should we trim more VXX? For some reaseon I have that itch to add more to my CIEN position.
eryba1
August 30, 2013 – 11:17 am
@doug.sekula: hold off itching earnings 3 days away unless U R trying to build up that position after U trimmed this week
eryba1
August 30, 2013 – 11:23 am
market are just acting very weak even though contrary indicators LOTS of bearishness and FEAR, but not VERY oversold anymore as of yest closing
eryba1
August 30, 2013 – 11:34 am
We have extreme fear and HEAVY bearishness sentiment as well http://money.cnn.com/data/fear-and-greed/?iid=H_INV_QL However with Gov budget issues, Syria, fed tapering weakness is still the theme
eryba1
August 30, 2013 – 11:36 am

normally if FEAR causing this decline in markets into long weekend OIL to spike gold as well instead both are falling 1/5 a percent each and yield on 10 year steady at 2.75.
eryba1
August 30, 2013 – 12:32 pm
Extreme fear levels being approached- just another indicator of perhaps being pulled too far on the downside for the markets for now

eryba1, will you let us know when to get out of a position ?
eryba1
August 30, 2013 – 1:05 pm
@codyfriend: That is a tough one I say when I trim and when I buy. Since this is not my portfolio on display here and I run a family office I have been firm on what I buy sell and other to a fault as again this is trading with cody vs my name on the site.
eryba1
August 30, 2013 – 1:17 pm
@codyfriend: I think I have been open and thus I do say already when I am in or out of a position.
eryba1
August 30, 2013 – 1:19 pm
@codyfriend: does that answer your question?
eryba1
August 30, 2013 – 1:20 pm
market dropped and now popped on Jogn Jerry speech, volatilty war fed taper budget deadlines all weighing on markets

August 30, 2013 – 1:33 pm
@eryba1: Two questions re oil. Have you ever heard (I have)/do you believe that gold and oil usually go in opposite directions — if oil spikes, gold drops, etc? And also, I’m not that familiar with USO — is it pretty much a pure play on the price of oil?
eryba1
August 30, 2013 – 1:46 pm
@ebdavids: No in my experience not linked in everyday normal trading. When U have geopolitical situations revolving around oil producing region there is a panic to oil production stoppage or reduction ( however we are getting less and less dependent on middle east for OIL) As for gold it was crushed and now in an uptrend so it can pullback
ebdavids
August 30, 2013 – 1:48 pm
Thanks for that. Would you say USO is a good play if one thinks oil might do an up-panic, or have you seen that and is that already baked into its current price?
eryba1
August 30, 2013 – 1:48 pm
yes USO is pretty much an oil play ETF
eryba1
August 30, 2013 – 1:51 pm
‘@ebdavids: baked in IN MY OPINION unless things escalate but one would think 3 day weekend war rhetoric that woil would spike further we have 2 hrs remaining

@eryba1 One more comment (spurred by your answer to jjss’s question about your role): I think your presence is VERY valuable and your comments/moves seem quite smart and right-on (as right as anyone can be in this game) — but (and i’ve heard this expressed before), we’re all hoping that having you there all day doing your Guide job has not led to Cody being on this chat (as opposed to the Weekly Q&A) a lot less than he should be. I(And i see you qualified your answer on that point to jjss.) This could be a big issue, and i know some people are concerned — TWC promotes Cody’s presence once in a while in selling the service, but he doesn’t seem to be here and/or respond (even when he’s here) much. I hope this has been discussed. . I see Bill is on here — hope he passes this on.
ebdavids
August 30, 2013 – 1:59 pm
this on to Cody. Thanks for listening!

@Bill — please read my above comment to Eryba1. Hope the message has gotten through to Cody.
eryba1
August 30, 2013 – 2:07 pm
@ebdavids: ALL VALID POINTS- I have discussed this with him several times. he is very aware and is slowly I think geraing up to be on here more often as people want to converse with Cody more than just once during the weekly chat.

eryba1: I guess tradingwithCody means he just let us see his trading log and a Q&A session once a week. In between time, he hires you to monitor the chat room. Is it correct ? I just want to know what to expect.
eryba1
August 30, 2013 – 2:08 pm

August 30, 2013 – 2:10 pm
The thing is, sometimes it’s indicated that he’s “on” the site and monitoring, and people occasionally have asked questions and there hasn’t been a response. I guess tht’s the most frustrating thing…
eryba1
August 30, 2013 – 2:11 pm
@ebdavids: I know what U mean exactly- That was the subject of my conversations with him. I can understand he wants to leave MOST questions to the weekly chat vs that being slow because a lot was answered before hand
eryba1
August 30, 2013 – 2:22 pm
@ebdavids: On another front how R U guys feeling? fearful? greedy? sitting this out? nibbling on the buy side?
ebdavids
August 30, 2013 – 2:23 pm
Settling into the long weekend, nibbling, sorry to see gold dropping… but hopeful/ knowing it will come back.
eryba1
August 30, 2013 – 2:24 pm
@ebdavids: Its had a solid RUn 116 bottom to 137 I trimmed so as I mentioned at 137 looking to buy back at 131 ish levels
ebdavids
August 30, 2013 – 2:27 pm
As for gold, unfortunately, i’ve been dealing in GDX calls — and didn’t trim enough. So i’ve had bigger ups and now downs. But like i said, I’m hopeful. (Mine are dated January ’14)
eryba1
August 30, 2013 – 2:29 pm
@ebdavids: GDX way more volatile than GLD I had said maybe 27 is the next area for it to see, but lets watch how next week plays out when all back from vacation school starting etc

August 30, 2013 – 2:32 pm

msamuels2000
August 30, 2013 – 2:32 pm
@ebdavids: I’ve gone to the window twice this month with nice wins on GDX calls. I’m sitting on some Jan’s that are down too but I feel like gold in the ground is the next best thing to gold in your own vault so if paper gold crashes per cody I want that constant exposure

@eryba1: Some kind of hedge against panic selling on Tuesday is in order going into this weekend..anything look cheap or overlooked?
eryba1
August 30, 2013 – 2:43 pm
@msamuels2000: Cash is one hedge selling some even here is better performing names LNKD, AAPL,FB, Some oil or Gold or VXX perhaps for those looking for such a scenario
ebdavids
August 30, 2013 – 2:43 pm

msamuels2000
August 30, 2013 – 2:50 pm
@eryba1: Might nibble at Defense/Aerospace ETF ITA but its already at an all time high. Wierd with those draconian sequester cuts that defense firms seem to be doing ok or maybe somebody know something 6 months ago

@msamuels2000: someone always knows something others dont ask steve cohen
eryba1
August 30, 2013 – 2:55 pm
@msamuels2000: I would think if people wanted bigger exposure into long weekend we would see Gold and OIL rising so far thats not the case and with G20 meeting next week military action on before or during is by many very unlikely

GM- So we get Obama asking Congress for permission to strike Syria. Very solid #’s out of Europe and China. HUGE Verizon 130B deal with Vodaphone. MSFT buying NOKIA handset business for 7+ Billion. All these things have sparked a global surge overseas. Nikkei up 5% in past 2 days germany about 2% and today we open higher a s a result. We have 54 % bears which is quite hi and avery fearful market as of fridays close as our markets corrected 5-6% each- http://tickersense.typepad.com/ticker_sense/2013/09/September-3rd-blogger-sentiment-poll.html http://money.cnn.com/data/fear-and-greed/?iid=H_INV_QL

So this weekend I go to Home depot to buy a few things and wanted to TEST the CREE light bulbs. I bot 6 of the 60W daylight equivalent (highest wattage they have) bulbs. I was anxious to test them out. After I installed the 6 bulbs I was very disappointed. The light emitting from them was like having normal lights on 1/4 dimmer setting. The room was far to dark. The back packaging reveals the answer it’s brightness is just 800 Lumens I will be returning the six bulbs @ $14 dollars each and instead buying thru amazon prime Sylvania LED lights that are 1750 Lumens. Will test these out when they arrive this week.

Hi Cody, I’m worried about the impact of Syria on my over all protafolio, what do you recomend to do on stocks like Apple, Cree, Intel, TESLA and others in 3 month period? With regards to Apple big meeting comming next week what move do you recommend if I’m looking at 3 to 4 months ahead?

@Cody: Good morning. I’m with you on the earlier call purchases on MSFT. Think I’m OK there, but curious whu the next tranche is January ’14, not April like the early ones. More/less confidence? Price premium? Can you explain?
eryba1
September 3, 2013 – 1:04 pm
as one might have expected in a weak market the pop was sold and we are in the red for the day so far on the dow. MSFT is dragging down the tech avg as its down 6%. Gold is popping higher off the Boehner Syria remark, but gold seems now to be entrenched in an uptrend. Lets watch individual names and see how they perform

Any thoughts on Ciena before earnings?
Olivepetunia
September 3, 2013 – 2:57 pm
@vmontes: I don’t know what strike you had in mind but they look too expensive and too specific issue oriented. What do you think of SPY puts say 157 or 158 for end Sept or early Oct?
eryba1
September 3, 2013 – 2:58 pm
@Jfmiranda: not to soeka for him, but in many weekly chats and the like the direction for rates is up. Cody has discussed in length that rates will rise as they did in 1998-2000 and so will the stock prices of his hi growth tech stocks
eryba1
September 3, 2013 – 2:58 pm
@nmantle: cien corrected 23 to 19.75 need earnings confirmation to get it back on track. nice volume today in its 3-4% rise
nmantle
September 3, 2013 – 3:01 pm
Thanks eryba1 – Not sure if I should protect my gains in cien or just let it ride..I’ll probably do a bit of both I guess.

@nmantle: both sounds good consider it the insurance premium u need to pay to cover yourself

@doug.sekula: no we can make it what we want of it, hold all trim some lock in some profits and then either buy a dip or add if it goes higher if you want. If U have to pay up consider it the insurance premium if declines u took profits at a higher price

GREAT CIEN report this morning Stock up 8% in pre market beat EPS and bottom line- this from the CEO- “Differentiated by our specialist strategy, we have increased our market share, achieved steady growth, and delivered improved and more consistent financial performance over the last several quarters,” said Gary Smith, president and CEO. “We believe that by expanding our role in the industry and extending our reach within our markets, we will be positioned to deliver greater profitability that is more sustainable over time.”

Once again if we concentrate on individual stocks we are seeing codys picks outperform the markets here in this 5-6% correction so far. With AAPL up 2% this morning in pre market cien near 11% rise these stocks are helping to increase our portfolios while the markets hover at these pullback levels. If we see them finally start to rise again we could see continued further gains outpacing the market. Lets see how the day unfolds and if our premarket gains are sustained.

September 4, 2013 – 8:41 am
@eryba1: sure did! I borrowed a lot of gains from my FB position (sold FB at these levels already) making CIEN my largest position going into earnings this morning. When, if I even should, sell some CIEN to build my position in FB back up ? That is the question thats haunting me now. Do you see FB going past 42 without a catalyst?

@doug.sekula: DOUG that was VERY RISKY!!! Time perhaps to balance things out for now. Seeing FB past 42 my targets dont matter I do seeing its at I had said weeks ago 48 or 58 if we see another leg higher in the market after this correction. FB is acting VERY WELL independent of the market which is still correcting / basing here for now at S&P 1630
Olivepetunia
September 4, 2013 – 8:52 am
@doug.sekula: @eryba1: In previous quarters FB rallied into earnings reports. Seems very possible to me that persistent buying resulting from analyst estimate revisions could cause FB to rally and break out in anticipation of next earnings report, possibly without specific news. What do you think?
eryba1
September 4, 2013 – 9:27 am
@Olivepetunia: sounds possible, its got support, its been a go to stock and has seen analyst revisions higher because online data usage and ad efficiency has been on the rise for FB

eryba1
September 4, 2013 – 11:33 am
@vmontes: just installed the 2 sample sylvania bulbs 1650 lumens that is the necessary brightness but Cree was $14 a bulb for 60W these 100W at 1650 is whats needed an exact 100 w compact flourescent replacement but at $54 a bulb very costly for an avg house needing easily 30-50 a house if 3 flr home

vmontes
September 4, 2013 – 11:43 am
@eryba1: Yes that is very costly
eryba1
September 4, 2013 – 11:48 am
@vmontes: question is how long does it last and how much $$ does it save. Its uses 20% of the power vs a regular bulb. The question is how much does it save over a Compact flourescent 100W equivalent bulb which costs 6 dollars for a 100W bulb
vmontes
September 4, 2013 – 11:48 am
True
eryba1
September 4, 2013 – 11:56 am
@vmontes: I need to ask a specialist I know who could tell me. as to pay $54 for a bulb vs $6 = 900% times the price for 1 bulb must seriously need to last a decade otherwise changing a 100W CFL bulb 2-3 times a year could last U 4-5 years worth of payments just for the bulb wattage usage and energy cost to power the 2 are I would think VERY hard to quantify on a house by house basis. The upfront cost 50 bulbs a house X $6 a 100W CFL bulb = $300 dollars vs 50 bulbs at $54 a bulb = $2700 = 9X the cost
MikeM

@codyfriend: 1 day does not make a trend. none of issues bothering markets has been resolved. syria, fed decision, higher rates (market getting more comfy with it seems) federal spending budget. This from Cramer on why SNDK was up near 5% today now 2.66% – a big factory fire owned by Hynix, a big competitor, and all of the people who thought it was rolling over, especially the shorts, get a huge jolt and it goes higher. This story feels a lot like the Thai flooding that took out capacity for the disk drives. I think that Sandisk (SNDK) and Micron can go higher.
