I’m happy I stayed with my NVDA positions since Cody´s recommended. I did not sell when Cody closed his positions and I really believe Nvidia is good for long. They are in the begining of nice future grow

@eryba1: Good news! Nvidia is involved in something very interesting which is its product called GRID. GRID is Nvidia’s technology of GPU for cloud computing, they are partnering with IBM in this and Amazon is already offering cloud services leveraged on GRID. New Tegra chips K1 and 4i are very impressive and in the PC game market and HPC its leadership is consolidated.

@Johan: Rokon.
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 8:52 am
@Johan: good luck with NVDA. I am looking to see if we get one last push higher in the averages after this consolidation. I DO not want to give back too much of my gains from the S&P bottom 1740, fear gauge buys when it was 12-15.

@eryba1 It is hard to distinguish the smoke and mirrors at Goog from their real tech pushes. This one makes some sense as opposed to the driverless car or the glass.
Johan
February 13, 2014 – 9:12 am
@eryba1: I agree. I am working with around 50% in cash since mid January. I do not want to be 100% invested in the market nowdays… Best
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 9:14 am
@Johan: The S&P correction at 1740 was aVERY good buying opp even if it turns out to be short term. Looking to see if this pause is just that before rising into next week or sideways and possible RETEST in a few weeks.

eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 10:13 am
what I do wnat to do is start locking in more gains here in FB above 65 goog 1190 aapl 538+ to have more dry powder on hand and to be able to add to other positions w/o capital levels dropping too low
dannychan1
February 13, 2014 – 10:13 am
@eryba1: thanks, pls keep us updated on invn… I’m thinking of tranching in as well… But not too sure of the timing.. It seems to have been dropping since Cody’s call
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 10:14 am
@dannychan1: codys call came after 15% rise in stock so some giveback is occurring.
Johan
February 13, 2014 – 10:18 am
Nice move on FB over 65
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 10:19 am
@Johan: VERY!!! Wondering do we see 73 before a pullback or does this level cap things for a bit.
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 10:21 am
wondering does QQQ see 64 before capping upside? watching it closely as fear gauge is ine good barometer but just 1 indicator, maclellan oscillator says we are in an uptrend, but we all know things cna change fast and to strike when there is upside vs selling when things are already in the red.
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 10:22 am
SNDK working VERY WELL
Johan
February 13, 2014 – 10:22 am

@dannychan1: Just added 2nd tranche in INVN and JDSU
dannychan1
February 13, 2014 – 10:42 am
@eryba1: thanks for the heads up… What triggered you yo add.. Just like to understand your thought process
dannychan1
February 13, 2014 – 10:44 am
@eryba1: also did u initially add 1/3 of invn and just added another 1/3.. Or did u tranche in based on ur own formula?
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 10:44 am
@dannychan1: INVN has found some support at 20.5 jdsu after csco being FE upon biz going to CIEN JNPR JDSU IMO
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 10:45 am

@dannychan1: Also when My accounts get to new all time hi’s I like to trim back some and have extra capital as well as protect the portfolio, something I have done in the past few years as I have been fortunate enough to be in that position.

eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 11:32 am
Ok trimming some Fb and goog here, just being protective as we are seeing a very nice move in our names
Turtle108
February 13, 2014 – 11:40 am
@eryba1: hey there – yesterday was thinking, oh no! we should have “sold the rip”- today, happy again. I think with gold stks it pays to just hang on, with a stop in mind of course. maybe we’ll break thru 1300.
Benb
February 13, 2014 – 11:42 am
nflx, goog, cmg and fb all of which I own are hitting new highs today. I dont see how a pullback is coming. Cramer got it right when he said to buy into that last dip.
Benb
February 13, 2014 – 11:43 am
Maybe we get another pullback but thats just another buying opportunity.
jakef1111
February 13, 2014 – 11:44 am
@Benb: when you can type i dont see how a pullback is coming… Its getn close to take profits
Turtle108
February 13, 2014 – 11:45 am
@eryba1: I’m really liking MUX here- if you have the time, let me know what you think it looks like on a chart- was looking at one yesterday saying it has a “bullish megaphone”, ready for take off. I like it for other reasons- i.e. their deposits, and the CEO. have met with him several times, and he is committed to having this co. included in the S&P 500 by 2015. he’s a rock star of the mining world, founder of Goldcorp.
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 11:45 am
@Turtle108: 2 diff styles sell rips buy dips NUGT down 10% yest GDX dwn 3+% I did say sell some and yest buyback day or just HOLD as today back up near 3% on the gdx and gold itself nearing 1300 an ounce.
Turtle108
February 13, 2014 – 11:46 am
@eryba1: good for you- if you can trade the metal stks successfully, that is good. they are so volatile!
jakef1111
February 13, 2014 – 11:47 am
@Benb: on the same note most ppl were expecting bigger pullback so they may start chasing
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 11:47 am
@Turtle108: I did not trade it, I held on I was saying on that 2nd NUGT 10% rise it was time to sell some.
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 11:48 am
@jakef1111: bigger pullback perhaps in the averages 6% roughly for all but individual stocks fell 10-30%.
Turtle108
February 13, 2014 – 11:51 am
@eryba1: ok. thanks for the clarity. $1299. so close- $1300 MIGHT set off some sparks, we’ll see- at some point tho, people will start noticing. Between my metals and Cody’s techs, having a really good day.
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 11:52 am
@Benb: Sadly ben the pullbacks JUST happen, fear is much stronger an emotion that greed and with liquid stocks, a 3 day weekend approaching with presidents day next monday Feb 17th. We are getting GREAT follow through after the pause yesterday in individual names, I for one am not ignoring that fact and am trimming some while I have added SSYS today and more INVN and JDSU today

come on, I have been in gold since it was at $279-
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 12:09 pm
@Turtle108: hope U were selling at 1750 and higher. I have gold coins and the like from 200 or so an ounce, My father LOVED to collect them
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 12:15 pm
@Turtle108: I was selling the gold coins in stages , 1000, 1500 etc and now have the 3rd tranche left to hold onto.
Turtle108
February 13, 2014 – 12:15 pm
@eryba1: my dad too- ALWAYS had 5% in gold as his hedge. My grandfather’s favorite stock was Echo Bay Mine- when it hit .50 in 1999 (?) I started buying. That was my entrée into gold stks. I did sell stks near the top, but not physical. just holding on for the very long haul. and i will admit, i know it’s going to sound , uh, not so correct- but i bought gold/silver stks at the real bottom- and have held some ever since- Richard Russell said, “fabulous wealth will be made by those who can just hold on thru a bull mkt. It will be the hardest thing you’ve ever done”. He posted a list of CHEAP golds, that he saw as perpetual calls on gold, just like Cody with ZNGA. l
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 12:16 pm
@Turtle108: find do a little TURTLE and HARE 2 step for a moment and the get back in your seat. All joking aside if we are in an uptrend and as rates and inflation comes back we could see avery nice run in the shinny metal.
TL15
February 13, 2014 – 12:16 pm
@eryba1, do you think GDX has room yet to run, or do you believe that being 25% up on the year might be as big a gain that it gets for a while?
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 12:17 pm
@TL15: if this is indeed a new uptrend GDX and gold has much father to run, just as a rule dont be too invested % wise in any one stock.
Turtle108
February 13, 2014 – 12:18 pm
@eryba1: LOL!!!!!!!!
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 12:18 pm

eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 12:35 pm
yesterday with amazon lnkd and gdx portfolios took a hit, today we are seeing a GREAT performance lef my aapl, amzn sndk cien and FB. If you are nearing yr his’s as the markets are still down YTD it is a good time to take some profits to have capital to buy other stocks that havent risen just yet ior you are trying to build up or start a new position in

What do you guys think of the threat of expiring patents for 3d companies and the threat of HPQ joining in the 3d space

@jakef1111: threats abound in any sector. article link?

February 13, 2014 – 1:07 pm
QQQ up now nearly 8% from the bottom in almost a straight line. To have bought as we were discussing to do so then fear gauge at 12 oscillator at -200 ish was the Right time to buy as it felt like the exact opposite and WRONG TIME, now looks like the WRONG tie to SELL, but I feel as I did then its the right time to start taking profits. FB was at 52 now 67 one week later nearly 30% higher. GOOG was 1080 now 1195 to name afew

eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 1:38 pm
anyone here adding today? trimming? hedging? other?
Turtle108
February 13, 2014 – 1:42 pm
@eryba1: i did not hold the whole down in 2013- only the few stks i have had since 2001- just trying to see, does buy and hold actually work thru a bull mkt- was dumb in retrospect, but very small portion of pf – and i love to look and see huge gains- i.e. i bought SLW at $2.79- a lot of it. sold most in the $30’s, but held some. back to a full position, built it over this past summer.
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 1:50 pm
@Turtle108: slw 3 in 2005 then 20 in 2008 GREAT run then bk to 32.81 in late 2008 then 45 in 2001 and back to 18 in 2013- VERY VERY WILD RIDES if U held on what U bot in 2005 U R still ahead multiple folds and are on some perscriptions perhaps as well

eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 2:25 pm
@Turtle108: sure if gold has the rise cody thinks, cramer thinks it can see #’s much better than its old hi’s if no issues with mine reserves, management etc
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 2:26 pm
@Turtle108: W btm in SLW at 20.
Turtle108
February 13, 2014 – 2:28 pm
@eryba1: that’s the beauty of SLW- the risk is spread out, like GDX. it’s is “the worlds largest metal streaming co”- they sit in their office and negotiate deals- (well, someone goes to the mines obviously)- but really, how many $8B cos. do you know of with 26 employees- they have bought millions of ounces of silver from multiple cos for avg $4 ounce- every penny silver goes up is huge to their revenues
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 2:30 pm
@Turtle108: yes just saw profile 26 people. Who are their accountants?
drefleury
February 13, 2014 – 2:37 pm
@eryba1: In re: If you are nearing yr his’s as the markets are still down YTD it is a good time to take some profits to have capital to buy other stocks that havent risen just yet ior you are trying to build up or start a new position in… Me now: So what if taking some profits means closing some Oct 2014 505 calls in AAPL? Up about 56%, but think of what they could be if a new product sends AAPL to 600+? Suggestions?
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 2:41 pm
@drefleury: Look the WHAT IF’s are just that WHAT if’s here U mention the upside what if’s you could have the same # of DOWNSIDE what if’s. This is why we trim on the way up and add on the way down if that is one style. I was saying BUY last week FB at 52, goog 1180 cien 21.5 aapl 500 and many others. SO for me its easy to now say sell we had a GREAT RUn just take some off increase your capital reserves, protect your gains if you bought last week and get ready for the next downtrend. It will come. It always comes. Many will soon call for that RETEST at 1730 or lower. I am VERY HAPPY with how we have performed here and to keep my accounts reaching new hi’s I am going to repeat the logic that has been working for me.
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 2:42 pm
thats goog 1080 not 1180
drefleury
February 13, 2014 – 2:44 pm
@eryba1: I’ve learned that I should heed a warning. Probably time to furlow the troops for a bit, you’re right.
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 2:46 pm
@drefleury: U can never time the each top and bottom, lets capture the majority middle 60-80%. If we rise again tom I will trim more as we get overbought into a 3 day weekend.
eryba1
February 13, 2014 – 2:47 pm
@drefleury: if one didnt buy the names and $’s I mentioned from last week it may be harder but with 10-30% rises since those lows for some stocks for me thats equates to trimming time.

@eryba1: What are the reasons that GDX went down this low in the crash environment of 2008-9, and just bounced off this level in this environment today? What correlates the two?

Nolan Watson (born August 1, 1979) is a Canadian entrepreneur, known for his work in the mining industry and his humanitarian efforts in Africa. When Watson was named the Chief Financial Officer of Silver Wheaton in 2006,[1] he became the youngest CFO (age 26) of a multi-billion dollar market capitalization company listed on the New York Stock Exchange[2] and helped build Silver Wheaton into the largest metal streaming company in the world.[3]
Turtle108
February 13, 2014 – 2:53 pm
Amidst all of his business endeavors, Watson has always been a philanthropist at heart and in 2005 he founded Nations Cry, a Canadian charitable organization focused on providing world class education to underprivileged children in Africa.[8] Nations Cry is a volunteer based organization with a financial structure such that 100% of all donations go directly to the end cause, helping the children who need it. Watson’s vision has led Nations Cry to Sierra Leone, a country that was marred by more than a decade of civil war ending in 2001. Nations Cry has completed a school building project at the International DOVE orphanage in Gloucester, Sierra Leone, and has purchased land with plans to build a community school just outside of the capital city of Freetown.[13]

well, as we’ve been watching for, the metal stks are ramping into the close- FWIW, i wish some of you would also look at GDXJ . Very conservatively, I would split my money between GDX- GDXJ- SLW. MUX- MDW- RIOM- NUGT all up large today.

The averages dont tell the strength under the surface in select stocks. Tech stocks had some big moves today. Goog and FB hit all time hi’s, Sndk, jnpr,fslr,3d stocks, amzn, aapl all outperformed further confirming the stock pickers market this has become. Gold broke and close above the 1300 round psychological # of 1300 now standing at 1302.9. Yield on the 10 stayed above 2.7 % down a bit today but closed at 2.736%. The baltic dry index seems to have found some solid footing in the 1085-1090 range closing today + 12 at 1097. Transports closed above their 50 day moving avg as did the russell 2000 index for small caps stocks. Using the maclellan oscillator we are getting overbought and should see + 200 tonight. More confirmation we are in an uptrend. We have a 3 day weekend coming up as monday is Presidents day and the markets are closed. Last mon tues were GREAT buying opportunities as some stocks are up 10-30% in that time. The hardest thing to do IMHO is to sell as was the hardest thing to do a week ago was buy into the downtrend. I hope everyone here bought some last week and trimmed today for a very rewarding week of trading since those buys. GN and see you tom morning.

Turtle108
February 14, 2014 – 12:02 pm
woops- didn’t mean to hit enter there- GDXJ holds the jr miners- the theory is that the majors are out of reserves, or very low- they will have to be buying up the jrs, and possibly soon- the trend has already begun- why wait until gold is at 1400 to buy out a mine, when you can do it now- i need to run but will be back, ask any questions- basically, the ABX and NEM’s of the world will have to buy the jrs- and hopefully at a premium!

Turtle108
February 14, 2014 – 12:32 pm
@Olivepetunia: no. it’s a senior- they will be out making acquisitions, and they are listed in GDX- I do think AUY is a good co tho- owned it for yrs, but not at the moment- trying to stick to what I consider mines in safe locations, politically speaking-
Olivepetunia
February 14, 2014 – 12:46 pm
@Turtle108: I thought AUY was Canadian – but I guess that’s not necessarily where their mines are located. Do they operate in politically sensitive countries?
Turtle108
February 14, 2014 – 12:50 pm
@Olivepetunia: many of the gold cos offices are in Cnd, Vancouver has a lot- “Yamana is a Canadian-based gold producer with significant gold production, gold development stage properties, exploration properties, and land positions throughout the Americas including Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Mexico.”
Turtle108
February 14, 2014 – 12:52 pm
@Olivepetunia: I guess it’s up to each of us to decide what is safe and what is not- I think AUY is probably fine, and most of those other countries too. it’s just always risky. mining has so many risks, so it’s good to minimize what you can if you invest in individual cos- that’s one reason i like the royalty cos, SLW- FNV- like with GDX, the risk is spread out- but you’ll make more money with individual stks-
eryba1
February 14, 2014 – 12:54 pm
@Turtle108: if indeed the market is running alongside the gold stocks and they are rising in unison perhaps it is wise after this STRAIGHT up V shaped move that a trim is in order for gold. I will explore that idea more as the day goes on to Trim GDX here at 26.5 area to buy back at 24.5?
Turtle108
February 14, 2014 – 1:06 pm
@eryba1: i am more of a buy and hold- i am looking at my recent buys as possible long term holds, but will trim along the way for certain- you can try to time this run, it’s just so hard- the other day when we talked of selling the rips i was against it, and you were right, the next day GDX dropped- but i bet it’s higher today than it was then- so, i guess this might be the time to trim for a trade – you are really good at this, keep telling me when you think we should trim! i will be very interested to see what traders want to hold over the 3 day weekend-

msamuels2000
February 14, 2014 – 2:02 pm
@eryba1: JNPR was way more overbought than CIEN and it seems to have held its gains after a brief dip. Would you add that to the mix in deciding whether or not to trim CIEN here?
eryba1
February 14, 2014 – 2:05 pm
@msamuels2000: No I am trimming either way bot at 21.5 so at 25.25 range I trimmed a tranche. If we get a pullback as I think we may I will add as we need to work off the V shaped move higher and overbought condition that can last longer. Things are working very well for us so I dont want to squander the opportunity new hi’s again. Cien had become my largest position after trimming FB yesterday so todays 8% rise is a gift and I am going to accept it increase my cash position and wait for the next pullback. if we go even higher next tues wed thur I will sell more

In the biotech sector I bought SZYM a couple of weeks ago after being tracking it for some months. I am long in it but you have to be very cautious. Very volatil so you can make trades buy ing low and selling hi… If they start operations in the new brazilian plant as schedulled for q1 2014 it will be a big catalyzer for grow.
eryba1
February 14, 2014 – 4:25 pm
It was a VERY productive week for our stocks. If you bought at fear gauge levels last week at 12 you very well rewarded this week as google, FB, CIEN, FSLR, AMZN AAPL, 3d stocks to name a few performed extremely well. FB and GOOG hit all time hi’s. Gold broke above 1300 an ounce and the GLD and GDX are in an uptrend. Just as we fell to extremes we are now getting overbought on the upside. The mclellan oscillator should read + 225+ tonight showing very overbought levels but more closing + levels just confirms the current market uptrend. Hope you trimmed some this week to lock in the great moves in many names to build up your cash positions for the next time the markets panic Markets are closed Monday for Presidents day and I am hoping to meet cody in NYC for the traders expo Tuesday.

We won’t know the exact time of the next pullback but we all know when it comes its feels like its out of the blue. Enjoy this sustained 6 days of upside in a row. The next time the markets pull back you will know what to do by preparing when times are good by trimming. Enjoy the 3 day weekend. GN

fear gauge bk to 44 from 12 just 2 weeks ago, baltic dry index up to 1146 + 16 up 3 days in a row for now, maclellan oscillator should see +225 tonight range. February 19, 2014 – 8:44 am
GM- The markets have been on an 8 day win streak and we have seen a VERY big spike from S&P 1738 2 weeks ago to 1840 close yesterday. Stocks have seen 10-30% returns since those lows and fear gauge at 12. This morning we have a softer open. Oscillator is at + 220 a very overbought reading. Lets see how this market works that off, by going sideways or declining a bit. US data comes in weaker as this polar vortex has hit many states quite hard and as a result putting things on ice as business has slowed quite significantly. The Jan 29, FOMC minutes are released today at 2pm. the 10yr is giving some of its rise back in the past few session now yielding 2.68%. Baltic dry index is at 1160 adding 14 points as the bounce after a 40% decline in 2 straight months seems to be abating for now.

I am in no rush to build this one out yet as we are very overbought for the market in general and want to see how the market works off this condition. We have had VERY VERY good results YTD with an S&P down for the year in comparison.

@eryba1 are you adding INVN herer
chrismossey
February 19, 2014 – 9:51 am
Yes agreed. As I mentioned three weeks ago. I think FB is one of the most tradable stocks in the market. Good underlying strength and plenty of people want to own it that do not, thus it can be bought on down days and sold on rips for cash generation.

lfnunnally
February 19, 2014 – 10:04 am
@erbya1: 26
eryba1
February 19, 2014 – 10:05 am
@lfnunnally: thats lesson here- For ME FB is a core holding. Thats how I feel about it, If I sell ALL I get antsy and want it back at the slightest pullback as I have none. Sop I NEVER sell it all unless I think something is wrong with the stock or company. Great 26 nearly 150% gains.
lfnunnally
February 19, 2014 – 10:06 am
@erbya1: Yep – you are correct.
eryba1
February 19, 2014 – 10:06 am
Why would U sell it all? we are each diff need the cash other? However here U r ALREADY asking when to get back in? SO WHY sell it all? Its up on the day and u R already feeling ANGST to get some back into your portfolio.
lfnunnally
February 19, 2014 – 10:08 am
@erbya1: I suppose it’s because I had such huge gains, and it appeared to be toppy. I kept waiting for a big pullback, but it never came.
rzepeda
February 19, 2014 – 10:08 am
Question – I have some FB in the $20’s but never got to my full allocation as I did not want to chase it.. if you wanted to add more how do you figure a good entry point?
eryba1
February 19, 2014 – 10:08 am
@lfnunnally: For now IMO U should NOT chase it higher here and take your cost basis from 26 to a new one at 68, Wait for weakness and then start adding back. It would have been wise (unless U need the $$ from the FB sale) to sell on the way up in tranches and add on pullback keeping a core position

February 19, 2014 – 10:12 am
@rzepeda: – Well played- well It worked out. When the fear gauge was at sub 15 I was saying this was extreme time to add now at 65+ range for me its time to trim, but keeping a core position to work around. its never that easy. FB Jan decline from 59 to 51.75 = 15% wasnt so easy to buy or knew it could / would fall that much. Take what the market gives U. CIEN 21.5 to 26.26 in what 5-7 trading days 20%, FB 52 to 68.5 today = all gifts

Just got back, I see this- Comments from the IMF about uneven global growth and risk to the downside are giving market players a convenient excuse for some profit-taking. In addition, Fed dove Lockhart is sounding a bit hawkish, as he anticipates that tapering will continue and interest rate hikes will commence in the second half of 2015.
