Despite the last couple days’ declines in the broader markets, those levels remain in tact…

Good morning and welcome back to weight room.  The markets are down 1%, back to about the 11,000 level on the DJIA.  Recall that I’ve been saying this week that I think we might finally be bottoming somewhere here between DJIA 10800 and 11000.  Despite — or indeed partly

Apple’s sticking tough — it’s down less than the Nasdaq…

The markets have stalled at about 1% lower here and are, if anything, trying to keep from fading another 1% or so.  Anything less than a 2% move would probably be a victory for the bulls, at least according to my old “dislocations” theory — A dislocation being anytime the market

Markets, Apple update, patience…

A pullback in the markets, but not a panicky rush for the exits.  Maybe we really are getting past the overdriven emotions that have been dominating the marketplace. I’ve not done any trades again today — two days in a row.  And that’s mainly because most of these stocks

Steve Jobs resigns…

Apple CEO Steve Jobs resigned last night.  Let’s discuss. I’ll reprint the entirety of what Steve Jobs, the now ex-CEO of Apple, wrote in the letter he sent out at 4:40pm, two minutes before Apple itself followed his email blast up, with the formal announcement of

Tips for helping us to pay attention to what matters and to ignore the noise…

And that’s a wrap.  The markets started flattish and pretty much steadily rallied all day finishing up about 1% across the board. That is indeed exactly the kind of slow rebuilding and gradual intraday strength that the bulls should probably want to continue to see. No trades for me

How hard has it been to buy lately…

Come on, my friends, Let’s make for the hills. They say there’s gold but I’m looking for thrills. You can get your hands on whatever we find, ’cause I’m only coming along for the ride. — Pink Floyd “What do you think of gold?” If I had

Who’s more scared right now, the bulls or the bears?

I’ve been patiently waiting for the emotional spirits that drive the markets, especially when things get as volatile as they’ve been the last month, to play out before covering some of our many shorts or adding more names other than last week’s new purchase to the long

There’s some legs to that rally out there…

She’s got legs, she knows how to use them. She never begs, she knows how to choose them. She’s holdin’ leg wonderin’ how to feel them. Would you get behind them if you could only find them?  — ZZ Top There’s some legs to that rally out  there.

I think this market might finally be putting…

Another day, another rally. Ha, just kidding.  But we are rallied up another 100 points in the DJIA this morning and it’s tried to stick so far.  And I do think we’re getting closer to bottoming sooner rather than later.  I’ll rephrase — I think this market might

I’m starting to wonder if the selling is…

Flat day at the markets and that’s not a bad thing.  Some steady base-building would be best, but regardless of what happens in the next couple trading sessions, I’m starting to wonder if the selling is closer to being over than started. I bought some Riverbed calls
